Neurotin Information

Neurotin is a FDA-approved medication manufactured by Pfizer for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) and partial seizures in adults and children. PHN is the pain that lasts one to three months after the shingle has healed.

MAIN INGREDIENT
Gabapentin.

USAGE
Neurotin is available in three different dosage forms: scored tablets, capsules, and liquid. Your doctor can tell you which form is best suited in your situation. Neurotin may begin to work as early as one week after you start taking it, but it may take longer. For some patients, the pain may not go away or subside.

WARNING
Do not take Neurotin if you are allergic to Gabapentin. Also, patients with kidney, liver, or heart problems should not take Neurotin. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities while taking Neurotin, as it could lead to dizziness and/or drowsiness.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
It is not known if Neurotin will harm unborn babies, so let your doctor know you are pregnant. Neurotin passes into breast milk. Do not take Neurotin without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

SIDE EFFECTS
If you experience an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling, contact your doctor immediately. Other possible side effects include, but not limited to:

- dizziness, drowsiness
- blurred or double vision
- irreglar eye movements
- nausea and vomiting
- tremor
Avoid alcohol as it can increase the risk of having side effects while taking Neurotin.

CURRENT USERS OF NEUROTIN
If you are currently taking Neurotin, do not stop taking it because you feel better. It is important to continue taking the medication to prevent seizures from recurring.
